REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE
I have recently been reading a book my son, Joe, recommended to me. The title is “Flickering Pixels How Technology Shapes Your Faith” by Shane Hipps. Before becoming a minister the author was in advertising sales. In chapter ten, entitled TOGETHER APART, Mr. Hipps tells about the ad campaign that AT&T used, many years ago, that gave us the statement “Reach out and touch someone”. The plan was to make us feel that even though miles separated people THEIR (AT&T) mobile phone could make them reach out to the other person and feel loved which in turn would make us feel happy. What they did not show is that while cell phones have given us the ability to make contact almost anytime, anywhere, 24/7 with another individual, it does not take the place of being there face to face.
As I was walking into the hospital tonight, to make some visits, I noticed an advertisement for the personnel at the hospital. The question it asked was, “Has someone felt your touch today”? It is good to know that the hospital is trying to encourage their staff to take the necessary time to actually touch or make a difference in someone’s life.
One of the many people I send prayer requests to by email took the time to send back a response to thank me for the ministry that I do at CHBC. The appreciation expressed by the individual gave me encouragement to continue in my own way to reach out and touch someone as well. Now I leave you with two questions to consider. How will you use the day that God gives you to reach out and touch someone? Will someone know that your paths have crossed today by the way you enhance their life?
Hope to see you at CHBC this Sunday! DRC
